For our next meet the team feature, we sit down with Ian Dennis, who manages the business development relationship between Renaissance Asset Finance and Arbuthnot Latham.

What does your role entail?

As the Senior Relationship Manager, I proactively manage the relationship between Renaissance Asset Finance (RAF) and Arbuthnot Latham to generate new asset finance business opportunities across customer portfolios. Working with individual managers, we identify SME limited companies, sole traders, and high-net-worth individuals who have an asset finance requirement.

Working with Arbuthnot Latham and RAF credit committees, we provide hire purchase and finance lease funding to both client bases on a range of assets from cars to plant and equipment. Typically, our customers are multi-hirers, often coming back for repeat business, so I manage each relationship to identify future requirements.

As of March, what trends are you seeing in the asset finance industry?

There is significant momentum building in the move to electric vehicles, especially in the light commercial vehicle sector and final mile delivery. Vehicle ranges are steadily increasing, and the legislation such as the ULEZ London zone restricts older vehicles from entry. While there have been supply chain issues throughout 2021, customers are keen to take advantage of new technology and early adoption to maximise government grants and increase their green credentials.

How can asset finance support your clients?

  • Access to new equipment
  • Increase flexibility to negotiate with suppliers
  • Cash flow management
  • Good for cash flow
  • Tax benefits through capital allowances

What would you say is noteworthy about Renaissance Asset Finance?

RAF has a significant amount of asset finance experience within its team, all with the knowledge and experience to be able to structure bespoke deals for customers.

Are there any personal or professional highlights so far this year for you?

Covid had an adverse impact on the ability to market direct to customers as most were home based, so physical interactions weren’t always possible. I’m looking forward to being able to deal effectively with customers on new asset finance requirements.

Finally, do you have any hobbies/interests outside of your role?

Outside of my extensive experience in asset finance, I am a keen cyclist and scuba diver. This year I have signed up to do ‘Ride Across Britain’ again, cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats over nine days.
