As the sole financial services sponsor for ROKiT MB Motorsport, we were granted the opportunity to sit down with race driver, Jake Hill, ahead of the season start.
Q: Jake, firstly let’s get your thoughts on the new season ahead. How excited are you?
A: I’m incredibly excited to get the season started. It’s been a long winter with lots of preparation and I think the team is in a really good place heading to Donington Park. I know I can speak for everyone at ROKiT MB Motorsport in that we all think we have the potential for a really exciting season.
Q: 2022 marks a year of change for both the championship and yourself with the introduction of hybrid technology and you getting behind the wheel of the BMW 330e M Sport. Are you looking forward to these changes?
A: Well firstly I’m really looking forward to the introduction of the new hybrid systems. As the UK’s biggest championship, I think it’s great that BTCC is embracing new technology. It sets up a very interesting season ahead.
Stepping into the ROKiT MB Motorsport BMW has been really positive. It’s quite a big change for me in moving from front-wheel drive to the rear-wheel drive BMW 330e but I’m encouraged by the early signs and it is just a case of seat time. The hybrid technology and the way in which that will work across the weekend and each race will be new for every driver, so it has the potential to throw up some surprises but that can only be good for the neutral!
Q: What are you most looking forward to this season?
A: That’s a hard one! I love racing so simply being behind the wheel is a thrill in itself. Being my home circuit, I’ve always had a soft spot for Brands Hatch and I think the atmosphere there is simply second to none so, I will say racing in front of my ‘home’ fans!
Q: What’s the objective this season?
A: Ask any driver what their goal is and they’ll say it’s to be the champion. I’ve dreamt of that for many years but I think this year we stand in a really good position to make that dream a reality. You can’t rest on your laurels though and we know it certainly won’t be easy. However, we all thrive on the challenge and that’s what drives us all forward as a team.
Q: Away from the race track, you’re a keen lover of all things automotive. Where did this passion for cars come from?
A: I grew up around cars and racing thanks to my dad so I’ll blame him for that! Cars come in all shapes and sizes and I think there’s a fascination in the differences and intricacies of each one. I really enjoy my historic racing and getting to see and drive some of the most amazing race cars is a real privilege, especially when they hold such an important place in the history of motorsport.
But away from the track, I still feel like that young kid growing up who just loved everything about cars. I’ve got a bit of a thing for retro cars and have been lucky to get behind the wheel of some of my absolute favourites growing up. My fiancé is also pretty understanding and has allowed me to take over our attic room which has become a bit of a man-cave for me housing all my trophies, podium caps and my growing model car collection. The passion for automotive is a strong one and I can’t see myself ever growing out of it!
Best of luck to Jake!
